RECOVERING WHEN YOU HAVE LOST YOUR WAY – Intro
“The following blog post is an excerpt from a new book by Errol Lawson called “The 5 Core Abilities of Highly Effective Leaders”. Errol is a business coach, best-selling author and youth pastor. The book is written primarily for the Christian community but readers from all beliefs can gain great insights from his writings.”
Maybe you know that God has given you a powerful vision, but aren’t sure how to manifest it in a business or ministry. Maybe an unrelated personal circumstance has interfered with your passion for your work. Maybe you’re trying to communicate your vision to others, but no one else seems to “get it.” Maybe you’re even starting to worry that you’ve chosen the wrong path. The last thing you want to do is lose your pas-sion, but you’re not sure how to move forward.
Psalm 25:4-5: “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
Thankfully, you’re not alone. Every single effective leader has struggled, at some point, with these kinds of doubts. Known affectionately as “Lady J” by many of her friends and clients, Dr. Jovannah Ellison is a successful business coach and speaker who spends her life building up others. She’s passionate about helping others find “the song inside of themselves.”
As the leader of Maximum Potential Academy, “Lady J” has spent many years formally and informally coaching other entrepreneurs. She equips others with confidence and clarity, and makes it her personal mission to send out business leaders who are prepared to share their vision with the world. She is also a pastor’s wife at the Church of God in Christ, which has two campuses in Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama— another role that has taught her how to encourage and strengthen others.
I hope that her wise words will help you to understand how to deal with these kinds of difficult questions when they arrive. We’ll also be looking at lessons from the life of the Biblical prophet Elijah, one of the most powerful leaders of the Old Testament, who also grappled with feelings of doubt throughout his entire ministry.
Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
