Don’t Go It Alone (Leaving the Island of Little Success)
I have come to realize that there is no such thing as a ‘self-made millionaire.’
People often talk about the ‘self-made millionaire’ who made his riches and success by being almost like an island- achieving this great level of success. But in fact, this is not true. Every successful person had a team of people, or individuals around them, supporting them in some way, shape or form.
I was reading recently that World Championship tennis player, Roger Federer, being the great success that he is, just recently hired a former tennis champion, Stefan Edberg, to join his coaching team. Now Stefan Edberg was formerly number one as World Tennis Player, and Federer, being as great as he is, recognized that if he is going to raise his game he is going to have to add some quality to his coaching team.
It just so happens that Andy Murray did the same thing. Somebody who was doing well but not quite making the cut hired Ivon Lendle, aged 52, to be a part of his tennis coaching team. And, of course, he went on to be an Olympic Champion and Wimbledon Champion and much more.
The point is this: we all need people around us to help us to move to our next level. Whether it’s a coach, a mentor, or just a team around us to support us and to help us achieve that which we are trying to achieve in life.
And so, my encouragement for you today is not to go it alone – find somebody, find a mentor, find a coach, find somebody, build your team. Build a dream team around you that will help you to achieve your goals and your dreams in life.
